Who We Are Orangutan Responsible Tour Sumatra is a social entrepreneurship in ecotourism in Bukit Lawang - one of the main access to Gunung Leuser National Park - home to the endangered Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo Abelii) and other tropical wildlife like sumatran elephants, sumatran tiger, hogs, monitor lizard, the biggest flower in the world, Rafflesia Arnoldii, The tallest lower of the world Amorphophallus Titanium (Titan Arum), etc.
We offer travelers around the world our ecotour services in Bukit Lawang and in other part of North Sumatra and share equitably in the benefits emerging from the ecotourism activities with the host communities - through our community development program in education - as a compensation for their loss of access to resources they may have suffered when the national park was created.
What We Do Nature School Bukit Lawang We initially set up a free English school for children of poor villages near Bukit Lawang in our mission to bestow them with knowledge and skills they might need for better opportunities in the future as well as to raise their awareness on the importance of preserving their natural environment.
Additionally we also support other local schools in needs, like help them buying school supplies they cannot afford, book donation for school library, restore a leaking school roof, etc from your tour with us.
Vocational School For Youth We are now planning to set up a vocational school for local youth to train and prepare them to enter the workforce with the academic and vocational skills needed to make it possible to get better employment or to create self employment. The vocational school is expected to give an immediate effect on the persons who get trained in order to be able to master their own lives and become a resource with a passion to contribute to the development of their own region and community
Tour For School We apply social entrepreneurship concept as a funding scheme to finance this community development program. We offer tourists from around the world our ecotourism services in Bukit Lawang through 'Jungle Trekking For School' and in other area of Sumatra through 'Sumatra Tour For School'. Our goal is to contribute tangibly to conservation and an improved local education & economy vitality.
