Sidikalang is the capital of Dairi Regency in North Sumatra. Sidikalang is located around 152 kilometers from Medan (around 6 hour car drive, or 2 hour after Berastagi, and around 1 -2 hour to Lake Toba), and about 1,066 meters above sea level, around Barisan Mountains area. Farming is a large business in Dairi. Major crops are coffee, both robusta and arabica. Coffee farms in Sidikalang are cultivated by smallholder farmers. Total of 14.117 Ha robusta farm produces robusta coffee of 6.770,33 ton/year and 5.771,5 Ha Arabica farm produces Arabica coffee of 2.639,05 ton/year.
You can stop by the coffee farm cultivated by local farmers and see how the they grow and process the coffee from seeds to cup. Other place worth visit is 'Taman Wisata Iman' - a religious park, where there are religious buildings of five main religion in Indonesia with a great view to Lake Toba.
How To Get There
Take a flight to Medan/Kuala Namu Airport (KNO), continue with 4-5 hour non stop car drive to Sidikalang.
From Medan airport/hotel, go to 'Simpang Pos', here continue with a bus to Berastagi (2-3 hour trip), and in Berastagi bus station take a bus to Sidikalang (around 2 hour trip).
From Lake Toba, go to the nearest bus station and take a bus to Sidikalang (around 2 hour trip).
From Bukit Lawang/Tangkahan, take a bus to 'Pinang Baris' bus station in Medan (3 hour trip), continue with a minibus to 'Simpang Pos', get a bus to Berastagi, continue with another bus to Sidikalang.
You can have your hotel/tour operator arrange you a shared/private taxi from Medan airport/hotel, Lake Toba, Berastagi, Tangkahan, Bukit Lawang to Sidikalang, or find them yourself at the airport/around the hotel.

The majority people in Sidikalang is Batak Dairi and mostly are christian, followed by Batak Toba, Karo, Jawa. They are quiet expressive, friendly, love to chat & laugh.
Batak Dairi has similarity with Batak Karo in Berastagi.
