The Sumatran orangutan is one of the three species of orangutans. Found only in the north of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, it is rarer than the Bornean orangutan but more common than the recently identified Tapanuli orangutan, also of Sumatra.Wikipedia
Join our Jungle Trekking For School in Bukit Lawang - one of the main access to Gunung Leuser National Park, North Sumatra - to see the Sumatran orangutans and other tropical wildlife in their natural habitat, while making a meaningful contribution to the local community development in education. We can customize the trek in both multi-sport adventure tour and soft adventure tour, and for the less intrepid, or for family with children or elderly with them, from one day jungle tour to days of jungle expedition. All treks are ranger-guided and leave from the visitor center.

Trek Safety Information
Never touch or feed orangutans or other wildlife. Mina and Jacky are exceptional. Mina attacks people for foods - she was captured and used to be fed before she was released in to the park. Jacky will hold your hand in her strategy of asking foods. If you meet them during the trek, let the guide feed them and be relaxed. If you want to take their picture, turn off you camera flashes, remain quiet, then walk slowly away from them following the other guide.
Stay a minimum distance of 10 meters from orangutans (whenever possible)
Do not yell, provoke or point things at orangutans.
Stay a maximum of 1 hour if you come within 50 meters of an orangutan
Turn off you camera flashes
Remain quiet in the forest and avoid eye contact with orangutans, they can be easily stressed in the presence of a large group.
Do not stand between a mother and baby or orangutans during courtship.
Only bring what you need in a small bag to the forest, you do not want animals to think you are bringing food and you don't want to lose anything important.
Please dig 30 cm deep holes to use as 'jungle toilets'.
