Who We Are Orangutan Responsible Tour Sumatra is a social entrepreneurship offering travelers around the world our Jungle Trekking For School in Bukit Lawang, North Sumatra, and other tour within Sumatra that we dedicate to share equitably in the benefits emerging from the ecotourism activities with host communities - through our community development program in education - to contribute tangibly to an improved local education, economy vitality, as well as nature conservation - as a compensation for their loss of access to resources they may have suffered when the national park was created.
What We Do We offer our ecotour services throughout Sumatra at our very best for our guests to experience one of the best Sumatra adventure holiday while making positive impact in education to the local communities. We set up free English school for children of poor villages near Bukit Lawang in our mission to bestow the children with knowledge and skills they might need for better opportunities in the future, as well as to raise their awareness on the importance of preserving the natural environment. Additionally we also support other local schools in needs, like help hiring a local english teacher for extracurricular, school supplies, book donation, school library, restore a leaking school roof, even to build a shelter for the free english school that has not yet had roof.
Where We Are We are based in Bukit Lawang. Bukit Lawang is one of the main access to Gunung Leuser National Park - home to the endangered sumatran orangutans (pongo abelii) and other tropical wildlife, like sumatran elephants, sumatran tiger, hogs, monitor lizard, the biggest flower in the world, Rafflesia Arnoldii, The tallest lower of the world Amorphophallus Titanium (Titan Arum), etc.
It is approximately 86 km north-west of Medan - the capital city of North Sumatra, Indonesia. From Bukit Lawang you can reach Tangkahan for the Sumatran elephants camp response unit in 2.5 hour drive (off road), 5 - 6 hours to Sibayak Volcano Berastagi, next 2 hours to Sidikalang, next 2 hours to Lake Toba, next 3 - 4 hours to Pulau Banyak, and Pulau Nias.
